So, we usually go to The Ritz to listen to Jeremy Davenport play when my friends Jason & Dawn are showing off their phenomenal dance moves (and I get to dance with Jason in between ;D). This is such a joy, as you should be finding out that I truly love to dance (Salsa, Swing and whatever else gets me smiling and moving ;D).
Jeremy performs every Thursday (Happy Hour from 5:30 – 9 pm), Friday and Saturday (both from 9 pm – 1 am). No Cover, Valet Parking is Free (get your ticket validated in the bar on the 3rd floor). Jeremy now performs in the Davenport Lounge (yes, named after him). He also just released his brand new CD in May 2009 called, “We’ll Dance ‘Til Dawn” (Oh, how true this is for me). Gal Holiday & Her Honky Tonk Revue is Every Sunday from 9 pm – 12 am at BMC (Balcony Music Club) at corner of Esplanade & Decatur. If you LOVE Patsy Kline as much as I do, this is definitely the place to be. Throw in some other great covers of Johnny Cash and the like and Gal Holiday will have you swinging to her sweet voice. I even got to dance some Country Swing (which was almost a mix of Salsa, Swing and Merenge . . . too fun!!). This was on my wish list last year to check out and I finally got the chance in June 2009. I’m so glad I stopped in. I’ll definitely be heading back for more. Hey!! You can also catch them for their other weekly Wednesday show at Mimi’s in the Marigny from 9 pm – 12 am too!! Okay . . . So I finally got to go to Swing Dance at Rock N Bowl (3000 S. Carrollton Ave. at Earhart ~ next to & sharing parking lot for Ye Olde College Inn). I had a great time and the new location is beautiful (and BIG!!). HUGE dance floor!! Live bands every week ~~ Swing is on Wednesdays starting at 8:30 pm. $5 cover. (504) 861-1700. The great thing about this is that it’s also a Bowling Alley ($20 per game) so if you have some friends that want to come and are too shy to dance initially, you can always tell them to bowl first then join you (or go backand forth between the 2 because it’s all open).
