Hello My FabuNOLA Family!!!

Here’s a note to wish all of you FabuMom’s a very Happy Mother’s Day today. Thank you for all of the beauty within you guiding the way for greatness around you … including your own greatness!! Let’s also celebrate Mother Earth again because she nurtures us too … just as all of our fabulously phenomenal Moms have all these years. Thanks to my Mom, Esther Carita Tompkins, for giving me Life (and to my Grandmother, Esther Margaret Daugherty, for giving my Mom Life … and so on and so forth). And to my loving Godmother, Winnie Ward, for always being there for me as well. Smooches to all of You!!

AND … be sure to bring your FabuMom (and anyone else you choose) tonight for FabuNOLA presents … Sexy Salsa Sundays (at the Blue Nile). FabuMom and SalsaDanceQueen, Julie Banks Mims of GumboSalsa, will be instructing tonight (while Mike G of NOSD spends time with the lovely Moms in his world … including his beautiful wife, Nasha, who will give birth in a couple more months). I’m looking very forward to see as many of you as possible tonight.

The Free Class starts at 7 pm. The Social Salsa Dancing (no cover) starts at 8 pm (until). Chef Holly of Holly’s Tamales is back tonight too. She sold out of her delectable delights last time so be sure to get to her early in the evening. Her menu this weekend will be a Honduran Veggie Tamale with Cuban Black Bean Sofritos & Rice + dessert Tamale … so YUMMY!!.

See below for more details on Sexy Salsa Sundays (and thanks to those of you who have been supporting so positively), as well as other great events going on this week or upcoming. There are a bunch of great ones I’ve listed below so be sure to check them out!!

We are all beautifully inter-connected in this way. You are always loved and supported here. You will always mean so much to Me!! I’m wishing you only and all of the best.

Okay, that’s it for now. Until the next time … I’ll see You on the Page or in Person! And tell them FabuNOLA sent YOU. As always … here’s hoping to see You … Out & About!!

2 Great Films are being presented by the New Orleans Film Society soon:

GOOD HAIR Presented by NOFS and the Porch 7th Ward Cultural Org.

Good Hair is a documentary by Chris Rock; directed by Jeff Stilson.

Released in 2009 (96 min.).

This screening is FREE of charge on Saturday, May 15.
Doors open at 6:30 pm/Film at 7 pm.
7th Ward Neighborhood Ctr: 1943 Pauger St.

Good Hair posterAn exposé of comic proportions that only Chris Rock could pull off, Good Hair visits hair salons and styling battles, scientific laboratories, and Indian temples to explore the way black hairstyles impact the activities, pocketbooks, sexual relationships, and self-esteem of black people. Celebrities such as Ice-T, Kerry Washington, Nia Long, Paul Mooney, Raven Symoné, Maya Angelou, and Reverend Al Sharpton all candidly offer their stories and observations to Rock.

Presented by NOFS and the CAC.

Art & Copy poster

A powerful film about advertising and inspiration, Art & Copy introduces the cultural visionaries who revolutionized advertising during the industry’s golden age by creating slogans to live by and ads we all remember. Exploding forth from advertising’s “creative revolution” of the 1960s, these artists and writers all brought a surprisingly rebellious spirit to their work in a business more often associated with mediocrity or manipulation.

Directed by Doug Pray. USA. 2009. 89 min.

Contemporary Arts Center, 900 Camp St.

NOFS and CAC members $6, general admission $8
Tickets at cacno.org or at the door/CAC box office: 504.528.3800

For more details on these & many more screenings throughout the year, becoming a member of the NOFS and wonderful Film Festivals year-round, please go to New Orleans Film Fest.

Bridget Erin directs a modern-dress production of Maxim Gorky’s classic play.

Co-produced by M.I.C.A. & Karmic Foundation.

More info at http://www.micanola.org

This compelling 1902 play, considered Gorky’s masterpiece, centers on a group of wretched souls who congregate to play cards, tell stories, and debate whether it is better to live without illusions or to maintain a romanticized worldview. A powerful, influential drama, hailed for its realistic and memorable characterizations.

The world renowned Haitian Band, Tabou Combo, will perform a gala relief benefit concert on Saturday, May 22 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. Tabou Combo, together for 42 years, is widely regarded as the ambassador of Haiti’s national dance music genre known as Compas (con-pa).  Tickets are available through Ticketmaster for a 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. event.

All proceeds from this benefit performance will go to Haiti Relief and will be administered by the New Orleans Haitian Relief Task Force, a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed less than 24 hours after the January 12th earthquake devastated Haiti.  Working with Dr. Sylvain Francois, Haiti’s Honorary Consul to New Orleans, the Task Force will now turn its focus to direct coordination with other responders to address critical and immediate needs in the areas of education and healthcare.

For tickets, go to Tabou Combo Tickets.

Newly Fabu: CONTRIBUTE to FabuNOLA
(share in spreading even more love!!)

FabuNOLA eNewsletter, Blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc. are operated and maintained purely by my efforts to spread as much more positive Spirit throughout our FabuCity (and Globally). Through the many years so many of you have received my FabuNOLA emails, funding has not been involved (only recently has there been minimal advertising while transitioning towards greater advancement in this direction).

As the outreach numbers continue to expand (which is so beautiful), I want to be able to grow with you and offer a better experience. The only way this will happen is by opening up to more funding sources (Investors & Sponsors are always welcome … as well as gifts of any size).

Would you like to be a BIG part of the growth & expansion of a positive movement in New Orleans (and beyond)? If so, please consider contributing (whatever you can) in order to insure this continues to happen.

I’ll leave you with these Words of Encouragement:

“One of the fascinating things about human beings is this:  Believe for long enough that you are not as smart as others and this will actually lead to intellectual ineptitude.  But, confronted with the same doubts, if you choose to believe that your mind is merely dormant for now, lacking in exercise, once you begin to train it, there are no bounds to what you can achieve.”
